In the wake of the recent tragedies with which we are all dealing, I’m reminded of the 16th century English poet John Donne’s immortal words: ‘Any man’s death diminishes me’. Would that we should have a head of state with the moral substance and compassionate insight to speak on behalf of his nation to express a heartfelt connection with his fellow human citizens who might be suffering an unspeakable loss at this time. Instead, we continue to be led by a deeply damaged and profoundly amoral individual who knows not how to seize this dark moment and provide the necessary consolation to effectuate a collective healing.
